This Monday, by request, we're looking at the new Eternal Sailor Moon UFO plush that was released around April 2011 by an unknown manufacturer.
Quality - Let's see, quality wise, it's not the worst piece out there, but it's not even close to the best either. It seems to be made of a cheaper fabric than most of the official UFO's out there. I find that some of the threading is a bit poorly done and the details are simple applique's. Even the wings and ears are made of layered felt (not unheard of though for UFO's). But the thing that set's this one apart from the other "cheapies" out there, is the embroidery.

Appearance - Out of all the "new" UFO's out there, this one has to be the most accurate. I've seen some that have severe inconsistencies. I've seen some missing the gloved hands, some with the wrong brooches and even worse still, some with the wrong ANIME involved! Overall this one seems to have everything in order, as best it can for what it's worth. The only thing missing off this one, is the earrings, wingtips on gloves, moon on front waist and choker. But honestly, it's rather cute.
Packaging - What can I say about packaging? .. Well if your lucky, yours will come in a plastic bag as mine did. I've seen some without however. Honestly it's not the BEST plastic, but hey, something is better than nothing, right?
Art - No real art to speak of, so we'll look at the detailed embroidery and applique's. The embroidery seems well done, although it really isn't hard to make now-a-days with the newer sewing machines. The applique's seem rather standard, nothing spectacular about them to be honest. But hey, at least they're accurate!
Functionality - Considering it's a UFO plush, it's functionality would be to look cute, right? And that it does.
Fun - It's a UFO plush to snuggle and cuddle with. And what's more fun than being ABLE to do just that! I know a lot of Moonies out there that would LOVE to snuggle and cuddle their plushies, but can't because they're afraid of getting them dirty or worse! This time around, we have a nice inexpensive version that you can snuggle away with, or tag around anywhere you like. What's more fun than that?!
Cost - I have to give props for cost. Personally I bought mine at a local anime store (Lost World of Wonders) for $21.99. It's about worth just that. Currently you can find it for about $9.99 with around the same in shipping costs. Personally, I wouldn't spend more than about $20-$25 for this. It's not worth more than that.
Availability - For a while this was EVERYWHERE. Currently it seems that these are becoming a bit more scarce. Aside from anime stores seeming to carry them, you CAN find this item on eBay right now for a reasonable price.
If you're looking to cuddle up and play with a piece, this is the one to buy. Especially for the young Moonie that wants to start their OWN collection, or just wants to pretend they too can be the fighter of love and justice! After all, we're all a little bit of "Senshi" at heart, aren't we?
Sailor Moon Chan Says!
I don't have this particular plush, but I have one that is also a bootleg. The one that is of Sailor Moon sitting. Cute, even though a bootleg :p
ReplyDeleteI have this plushie and even though she's a bootleg, I think she's cute. :) I got her at anime store at the mall called Too Cool. :)
