It's time for another Moonie Review! This week we're looking at the Sephora Play Box for May 2017. The Play box is a box that typically contains samples of various items you can find at Sephora. Some items are 1 time use only, while others are more along the lines of what they actually have in stores.

Quality - The quality of these items can REALLY vary depending on what you get. Sometimes they are samples you'd normally find in a magazine and others you get something that's on par with what they sell in the store. So it's hit and miss. Overall quality is fairly good though, as each item is "hand picked" for the boxes each month. I haven't received anything as of yet that isn't "up to Sephora standards".

Appearance - The box is all kinds of stripe-y, so it's exciting when you see in the mail. It's definitely something I sit and wait for each month. When you open the box, you'll receive your items in a bag of sorts. So overall, it's quite professional looking and I would expect no less from a chain store such as Sephora.

Packaging - Again, we have the striped box, that opens when you slice open the stripe tape. The box seems somewhat sturdy and is made with a few layers of cardboard. Overall it's easily recognizable as a Sephora box.

Art - I would LOVE to say that the artwork from Sephora's Play box is so outstanding I cannot begin to describe it all in words. Sadly, that's not the case. The Play box is severely lacking in original "art". It would be nice to receive bags that are fun and fantastic like the Ipsy boxes give every month. Instead we're left sighing at the unimaginative artwork that it gives. While the bag itself might be cute.. the "Sephora Play" written all over is sort of a let down.

Functionality - Functionally speaking, it does what it's set out to do. Give you an idea of different products with the intent of bringing you in to purchase more. It truly does just that with a good amount of the items I've managed to use.

Fun - Sometimes these bags are a blast, trying everything on and playing around with whatever might be in there. Others, it's just sad. It really depends on the month to month basis of what you get.

Cost - The Sephora Play box is about $10 (with tax). So it's not that expensive at all.

Availability - Here's where it gets kind of hard.. getting on the list is easy, getting your box, may have you waiting a while. There is in fact a waiting list to get on the Play box. I personally waited about a month to get on, I've heard some waiting 2-3 months. So just be prepared to wait to get your first box.

While the Sephora Play box is cute and offers some nice trial sized items, that's about all it does. If I had to choose to only keep one, I would definitely go with Ipsy, as they tend to offer more full sized items than trial size. But then, it also is nice to get an idea of all the things that Sephora has to offer and try something before buying. I would MUCH rather get a trial sized item only to find that it doesn't work for me and toss it, than have a huge bottle of the stuff and look for people to pawn it off to.
Still, if you're looking to get into the make-up subscription scene, this may be the box for you. Sephora always has quality items for you to try before you buy. And really, that's what you're paying for.
