Another week has started and this week we're going to take a look at the Sailor Moon Cellphone Charm by GE Animation, released in 2012.

Quality - The quality of this charm is not at all what I had expected. Unfortunately, it seems flimsy and carelessly made. Everything just screams that one false tug and it's gone for good. Not to mention, the beaded chain that it has isn't even remotely sizable, so you're left with this rather LONG chain hanging. I can see their intention in this, so you can hang your key off it, but in order to get your key ON the chain you'll need a keyring. At which point, you've added MORE length to it. Leaving it bulky and annoying to work with. The quality of the metal itself is poor as well, feeling light and flimsy, I can only assume it's made of nothing better than aluminum.

Appearance - Looking at this cellphone charm, you would think it's nicely done with a better quality and fun to have around on your cell phone. It has a nice picture of Sailor Moon with her signature phrase along with a bonus moon charm to have with her. To top it off, you get to add a key to it as well. However, the length itself is far from disturbing, it's down right ANNOYING.

Packaging - This item was packaged onto a cardboard backing, taped through to keep it from slipping around and sealed inside a plastic sleeve. This aids in limiting the scratching of the actual images themselves, which is nice.

Art - The artwork is likely the HIGH point of this charm with Sailor Moon striking a pleasant smile while her phrase surrounds the top and "Sailor Moon" along the bottom. The packaging itself doesn't offer much of a variance from what we've already seen previously from GE, but we have a nice picture of Sailor Moon holding her wand and a decent picture of Luna walking across the bottom.

Functionality - Functionally speaking, this particular piece DOES attach to the phone. However, it lacks in so many area's that I just can't bring myself to give it more than I already have. It's far too long and flimsy to put on ANY phone. The chain on it is simply worthless and only makes the charm seem much longer than it needs to be. It tends to scratch the back of phone cases and cause issues when speaking to people on the phone, as the chain continues to hit the speakers on my iPhone. The charm itself doesn't hold on as well as others either. The loop continues to slip and grow wider, in which case I've had to rearrange it to get it to stay on several occasions, for fear of LOSING it all together!

Fun - While this cell phone charm seems to be a bust, it is a lot of fun to look at when you pull out your phone.

Cost - This particular charm of Sailor Moon goes from about $6.00 to $12.00. However, if it's the other scouts you're looking for, you can find them for as little as $5.00.

Availability - Fortunately, if you don't have an anime store near you that carries this stuff, you can always count on eBay and Amazon to deliver.

So while this particular item seems to be a bust for cell phones, I've personally been using it as a keyring entirely for my keys to keep them all separated! While my car key rests on one end, my house key hangs on the other and I've attached them to each other to create this adorable keyring. I'm sure this wasn't GE's intention, but whatever works, right!? My advice if you're going to use this as a cell phone charm, remove the actual chain. Unfortunately, because this charm is so light, it's hard to keep the weight on it to keep it from slipping off (which I'm sure that's why the chain was added to hang a key from. So you might want to do a little modding of your own and add some subtle pieces to the actual charm itself to make it your own and add a bit more weight.

  1. Cool! What’s good for some cellphone charms is that, it can also be used in ways other than as a cellphone accessory. Like you said, it can also be used as a keychain. It can also be placed on your bag’s zipper, or on your car’s rearview mirror, or even as a Christmas tree ornament.
