Finally, the end of the week is here! And you know what that means... another Flash Back Friday Sailor Moon review!!! This week we're going to take a look at the Eternal Sailor Moon Excellent Model Doll made in Japan in 1996!

Quality - The quality of this particular doll is very nice, but not at all what I had expected. Granted I may have had high expectations for this doll in particular, there are a few things that strike as a bit "flimsy". For one the wand itself is rather flimsy, it has a tendency to bend quite a bit from what I understand. The hands also don't hold the wand at ALL like in the picture either. And while it would appear that in the image itself, she is almost flawless, we are far from. While in some area's we see the paint is very nicely done, in others it seems obvious that this was done via factory and not hand painted. Finally .. we have the hair itself, with her long pigtail ends, in 2 parts. This leaves her looking like someone cut her hair in half and glued it back together. To which, I'm not quite sure what they were thinking, when a simple mold of each in it's entirety would have been MUCH more attractive.

Appearance - Looking at this doll, one could be struck with amazement and awe. The doll itself is fantastic looking all in all. With spot on coloring, details and accents, what more could one want?! How about for her to look more or less like in the picture? Unfortunately, if you're looking for her to stand like in the pictures on the box, you're going to need some time, patience and a little ingenuity. But, if you're just looking for an Eternal Sailor Moon doll to look smashing on your shelf, this certainly does the trick. The only thing that really strikes me as awkward, is the fact she's wearing lipstick..

Packaging - The packaging itself is nice. With Sailor Moon placed in a plastic bubble of a mold around her to protect her, against a cardboard backing. Behind the backing we have her wings, ribbon, wand, card and stand. Although I'd like to say that it's very nicely packed, it' about standard for an earlier toy with everything taped around and loosely placed otherwise. Still, comparing to some of the other items I've seen, this one is at the top of the list for packing.

Art - The artwork on the box is amazing. With the doll on the front and a very nicely done silhouette of Eternal Sailor Moon. Followed by one side with 2 images of Eternal Sailor Moon striking a signature pose on one side and a drawn diagram of how to put her together on the other. Finally, on the back we have a nice picture of Eternal Sailor Moon all put together to give an idea of how wonderful she will look. Unfortunately, looking at the image, you'll notice where a bit of "photoshopping" skills were put into play.

Functionality - Functionally speaking, we have a doll that looks absolutely outstanding on your shelf, be it in box or out. It stands rather well WITH the stand, but cannot hold the wand as in the image. (Mine can, but only at the TOP of the staff) Otherwise, this doll is truly something of a conversational piece on your shelf, desk or wherever!

Fun - This doll is a lot of fun to have around. Be it in the box or otherwise. It's large enough to really "play" with, semi movable with her arms and head and definitely light enough to place almost anywhere without issue. Collect ALL the Excellent model dolls and you definitely could reenact your favorite Sailor Moon episode!!

Cost - This doll can have a wide range for pricing, depending on the condition of the doll and if it includes all of the pieces. Generally you can find it anywhere from $100 to $250.

Availability - As of this moment, I've only seen this doll on eBay. Rarely you'll find it popping up elsewhere, generally from a collector looking to sell pieces of their collection. Otherwise, the auctions are about your only shot at this particular doll.

This doll is definitely a harder doll to find in good condition. More so if you're looking to have it in good condition, with a good condition box AND all of it's accessories and card. But if you're willing to wait and look hard enough, the payoff is definitely worth it! This doll is a load of fun to have and is a great alternative to the resin kits .. most especially if you're not good at painting.
Besides, who wouldn't want an Eternal Sailor Moon doll watching over their collection?! Holding her wand out as she wards off any youma that might prey on stealing your energy while you sleep .. or worse yet.. your hard earned Sailor Moon STUFF! *GASP!*
