Today we're looking at the Sailor Moon SuperS Chalice from Bandai Japan! This toy was released in 1994 for the Sailor Moon S season.

Quality - This Chalice gets 4 ♥'s because it really is WELL made. It seems to be durable and has truly held up through the tests of time I'm sure! I wouldn't recommend running around town, tossing it into the air in hopes of transforming, but I'm sure this toy could suffer a few carpet falls without any issue.

Appearance - This Chalice gets 5 ♥'s for it's amazing details. The gems are acrylic and the actual plastic has this metallic appearance. With the crystal within appearing as if it's holographic in nature, it truly can take your breath away. This is one item I strongly urge someone to see in person, as pictures simply do not do it justice.

Packaging - The packaging gets 4 ♥'s because though it's held in there firmly by some nice Styrofoam, unfortunately the plastic front leaves to be rather flimsy. Thankfully, as long as you're careful, the glue will hold. But it doesn't take much to damage this piece.

Art - This Chalice gets 5 ♥'s for the artwork. It's got Super Sailor Moon on it, with the signature butterflies flying about. The logo is nicely done with a beautiful ribbon on heart, signature logo and even pictures of the actual chalice being opened and all! It really is one of their better workings.

Functionality - Okay, and this is where it goes a-wry. This piece gets 3 ♥'s because though it does what it's set out to do, awe and amaze children and moonies everywhere.. it simply is ANNOYING. It plays the SAME thing over and over again, getting faster and faster as it continues to light up, until it can simply go no more!! And when it SHOULD stop, it doesn't!!! I've personally left it open for several minutes, before taking out those blasted AA batteries out for the first and LAST time. It's definitely a wonderful piece to display, but kiddies.. playing with it is a NO NO. Unless your plan IS to drive your family/friends/loved one's completely INSANE.. at which point, get your AA's and go to town!!

Fun - This Chalice get's 4 ♥'s for fun, because who DOESN'T want to pretend to be Super Sailor Moon?! .. I would have given it a solid 5, but that blasted song .. it just grates on you like nails on a chalkboard.

Cost - This piece get's 2 ♥'s for cost because it's NOT a cheap item to acquire. It ranges anywhere from about $750-$800 USD.

Availability - This Chalice gets 2 ♥'s AGAIN for availability, because it's ONLY available on eBay and OCCASIONALLY on a site called "AnimeMate". Unfortunately, it's been quite a while since this piece has seen store shelves.

Overall the Chalice is a fun toy and a great collectable. Would I recommend someone purchasing for Cosplay? Probably not. Would I recommend playing with it behind closed doors and curtains, twirling around while making the transformation noises and shouting out Sailor Moon's signature line? I plead the 5th ...
